Short Description
Reliant Lab Bar & Gauge
For Safety Training and Metal Extraction
Country of origin: India
Specifications
- Brand: Reliant Lab
- Product Quantity : 1 Piece
Description
The Reliant Lab Bar and Gauge is a classic thermal physics apparatus used to demonstrate the linear expansion of solids when heated and their subsequent contraction upon cooling. The kit consists of a metal bar and a matching U-shaped gauge with a hole and a slot. At room temperature, the bar is precisely machined to fit perfectly into the gauge's slot and pass through the hole. However, once the bar is heated, the microscopic internal kinetic energy causes it to expand, making it too large to fit, effectively visualizing the physical effects of thermal energy on molecular structures.
Features
:- Precision Machined Fit: The bar and gauge are engineered to such tight tolerances that the fit is lost with even a slight increase in temperature.
- High Quality Brass or Steel: Usually constructed from materials with high coefficients of linear expansion to ensure visible results during classroom demonstrations.
- Durable Gauge Plate: The U-shaped gauge is made from a thick, non warping metal to ensure the "fixed" reference point remains constant.
- Clear Visual Proof: Provides an immediate, binary fits or doesn't fit proof of expansion, making it superior to abstract numerical data for students.
Applications
:- Engineering Principles: Explaining why expansion joints are necessary in bridges, railway tracks, and pipelines.
- Calibration Testing: Used to teach the importance of ambient temperature in precision metrology and tool manufacturing.
- Safety Training: Illustrating the potential hazards of thermal stress in mechanical systems and pressurized containers.
- Material Science Basics: Demonstrating how different metals expand at different rates.
