Short Description
Cantilever Apparatus
Country of origin: India
Specifications
- Brand: Reliant Lab
- Product Quantity : 1 Piece
Description
A Cantilever is defined as a rigid structural element, such as a beam or plate, anchored at only one end to a support from which it protrudes. The Reliant Lab Cantilever Apparatus consists of a long, uniform metal beam clamped firmly at one end by a heavy duty cast iron vice or clamp attached to a sturdy base. The free end of the beam features a hook or hanger for attaching weights. To measure the resulting deflection, a vertical scale and pointer or a spherometer is positioned at the free end. As loads are added, the beam bends, and the relationship between the load and the depression allows for the calculation of the Young’s Modulus of the beam's material.
Features
:- Precision Measurement: Equipped with a high-resolution spherometer or dial gauge (0.01mm) to measure the minute depression of the free end.
- Graduated Length Adjustment: The base or clamp allows the user to vary the "effective length" of the cantilever to study its effect on deflection.
- Knife-Edge Hanger: The free end includes a precision knife-edge or notched hanger to ensure the load is applied at a single, consistent point.
- Vibration Analysis Capability: The apparatus can also be used to study periodic oscillations and transverse vibrations of the beam.
Applications
:- Structural Engineering Basics: Teaching the fundamental concepts of cantilever bridges, balconies, and crane arms in civil engineering.
- Material Stiffness Comparison: Evaluating how different alloys and thicknesses affect the flexural rigidity of a structural member.
- Vibration Frequency Study: Measuring the frequency of transverse vibrations to determine the material's elastic properties dynamically.
- Stress and Strain Analysis: Observing the distribution of tension and compression across the neutral axis of a bent beam.
