Description
The KG4-P-7.5AS from the Kirloskar “Portable Sentinel” series is a diesel-engine generator set rated at approximately 7.5 kVA (≈ 6 kW) output at 230 V (single phase) / 50 Hz (or with appropriate voltage options). It is designed for durable portable or standby use - combining the diesel engine’s efficiency, Kirloskar’s reputation for reliability, and the portability that suits smaller-scale backup or mobile power needs. Its compact size, robust build, and diesel fuel type make it suitable for homes, small businesses, field sites, and remote operations where mains power is unreliable or unavailable.

Features

 :
  • Rated Output : ~7.5 kVA (~6 kW) at rated rpm, according to the Kirloskar 7.5-20 kVA series spec.
  • Voltage & Phase : Standard single phase 230 V (with option for 415 V three-phase version in some listings) at 50 Hz.
  • Power Factor : 0.8 (lagging) as per ISO 8528 for this rating.
  • Noise Level : < 75 dB(A) at 1 metre for canopy version (as stipulated for the 7.5 kVA range) which suits quieter installations.
  • Engine & Build : The series uses diesel engines built for durability; the spec sheet lists models such as “2R550NA 4G1” for 7.5 kVA.
  • Compact Dimensions & Weight : For example, dry weight ~545 kg, dimensions ~1600 × 760 × 1050 mm for the 7.5 kVA canopy version.
  • Electric Start : Provided electric (battery) start for ease of use in standby situations.
  • Service & Support : As part of the Kirloskar family, the genset benefits from wide after-sales & spare parts network in India, enhancing reliability and maintainability.

Applications

 :

  • Residential backup power : For homes, small apartments, villas - able to support lighting, fans, TVs, refrigerators and moderate loads during power outages.

  • Small business / commercial use : For shops, clinics, offices, small workshops needing dependable standby power to keep essential equipment running (computers, lighting, AC units) during grid interruptions.
  • Remote & mobile operations : Such as construction sites, field offices, mobile workshops, outdoor events — where mains supply is unreliable or unavailable and a portable diesel generator is required.
  • Agricultural / rural applications : For farms or rural locations where grid supply is intermittent — to power pumps, ventilation, lighting, smaller motors within the 6 kW class.
  • Light industrial or workshop support : For light machining, tools, motors or small three-phase loads (if this version supports three-phase) within the capacity limits; useful in small manufacturing or repair shops. Because the unit is ~7.5 kVA, it is not intended for large industrial plant loads or heavy three-phase motor drives (which would need much higher kVA ratings). Proper sizing of load is crucial.

Usage

 :
Usage :
  • Installation : Place the generator on a level, stable, non-combustible surface, in a well-ventilated outdoor or semi-outdoor area. Ensure exhaust fumes are safely routed away from human occupancy, and clearance for airflow is provided.
  • Before Starting : Check engine oil level, coolant level (if applicable), fuel tank level, battery charge (for electric start).
  • Ensure the control panel is set to “Standby/Ready”, disconnect major loads initially.
  • Inspect for any visible leaks, check air filter and ensure fuel is fresh and uncontaminated.
  • Starting Procedure : Use the electric start to crank the engine.
  • Let the engine warm up without load for approx 1-2 minutes to stabilise.
  • Gradually apply load - avoid a full instantaneous heavy load especially after cold start.
  • Loading and Operation : Ensure the total connected load does not exceed rated capacity (~7.5 kVA) and leave margin (e.g., 20-30%) for motor starting/surges. Use appropriate cable sizing, circuit protection (MCB/MCCB) and proper earthing. Monitor voltage, frequency, oil pressure, engine temperature and listen for unusual vibrations or noises. If powering sensitive electronics (computers, servers, medical equipment), although the output quality is good, consider adding a UPS or voltage stabiliser for additional protection.
  • Shutdown : Remove or reduce load first; allow the engine to run unloaded or lightly loaded for a few minutes to stabilise.
  • Then switch off the generator; if storing for a long period, drain or treat fuel, disconnect battery, cover generator and maintain dry conditions.

Maintenance :
  • Engine Oil & Filter: Change the oil at first ~20-30 hours of use (if new) then at regular intervals (500 hrs as some spec sheets suggest) depending on duty and environment. For example the “CPCB IV+ 7.5-20 kVA” spec lists 500 hrs oil change interval.
  • Air Filter: In dusty or outdoor environments inspect and clean or replace the air filter frequently to prevent engine wear and reduce fuel consumption.
  • Fuel System: Use clean diesel fuel, check for water contamination, drain sediment/water from tank periodically, and if the unit is idle for long period treat fuel or drain.
  • Battery & Starting System: Keep battery terminals clean, ensure battery is properly charged, check electrolyte (if applicable), inspect starter motor and connections.
  • Cooling & Ventilation: Ensure engine cooling fins (if air-cooled) or radiator (if liquid cooled) are free of debris; check coolant level if applicable; maintain fan belts and mounting integrity.
  • Exhaust & Silencer: Inspect muffler and exhaust piping for leaks, check mounting points, ensure exhaust gases are safely directed away.
  • Load Test: Periodically run the generator under load (not just idle) to verify full-system health — this helps prevent issues due to prolonged no-load storage (such as battery discharge, fuel degradation, corrosion).
  • General Inspection: Check for loose bolts, vibration mount condition, wiring integrity, canopy/housing for corrosion or damage, fuel/oil leaks, proper gauges/alarms functioning.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain a log of operating hours, oil changes, filter changes, faults, load profiles — this helps in predictive maintenance and spotting trends (e.g., increasing fuel consumption, change in noise or vibration).
  • Use Genuine Spares & Service: Use Kirloskar authorized parts (filters, oil, belts, gaskets) and leverage the authorized service network for major servicing or parts replacement to maintain warranty, performance and reliability.
  • Storage: If the generator is not going to be used for extended time, store it in a dry sheltered area, protect from ingress (dust, rodents), treat or drain fuel, disconnect battery, check periodically.
