Description
  • The Taparia MDT-81 is a compact, multipurpose digital line tester that measures AC and DC voltage from 12 V to 220 V. It also helps detect continuity in insulated wires and locate break points externally, combining safety and precision in a handheld tool.

Applications

 :
The Taparia MDT-81 is useful in a variety of scenarios :

Voltage Measurement :
  • Measuring AC and DC voltages in circuits (12V to 220V).

Phase / Neutral Identification :
  • By placing the blade on PVC-insulated wire, it can distinguish phase from neutral via a flash on the display.

Continuity / Breakpoint Detection :
  • Locate break (open circuit) in insulated wire by externally probing the wire outer insulation.

Current Flow Check :
  • Detects whether current is flowing through an insulated wire externally, without stripping insulation.

General Electrical Maintenance and Troubleshooting :
  • Useful for electricians doing routine checks, for fault diagnosis in wiring, and for DIY home/workshop electrical tasks.

Usage

 :
To ensure the MDT-81 tester stays reliable and safe for long-term use, follow these maintenance guidelines :

Storage :
  • Keep in a dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight to protect the electronic circuit and the LCD.
  • Use a small pouch or tool box to prevent damage to the blade.

Cleaning :
  • Clean the blade using a soft, dry cloth after each use.
  • If necessary, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure the tester is fully dry before powering on or using again.
  • Avoid using strong solvents / chemicals on the ABS handle, as they may degrade the plastic.

Inspection Before Use :
  • Frequently check the blade for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion.
  • Check the LCD display for clarity; any flicker or blank screen may indicate a battery issue or internal fault.
  • Inspect the probe / extension cord (if used) for fraying or breaks.

Battery Management :
  • Replace the internal battery as per Taparia’s recommendation or when the display becomes dim. (While I couldn’t find a specific battery spec in available sources, most digital testers use small coin or AAA cells — refer to the manual or product packaging.)
  • Remove the battery if storing the tester for a very long period (to prevent leakage).

Safe Usage Guidelines :
  • Use only within the specified voltage range (12–220V). Over-voltage can damage the tester or lead to incorrect readings.
  • Do not subject the tester to mechanical stress like heavy duty screwing – it’s primarily a testing tool.
  • Avoid dropping the tester from height. Even though the body is ABS plastic, repeated impacts may damage internal electronics.
