Short Description
Reliant Lab Elongation of a Spring
For Material Science
Country of origin: India
Specifications
- Brand: Reliant Lab
- Spiral Spring Diameter : 15mm
- Length : 10cm
Description
The apparatus consists of a vertical metal or wooden stand equipped with a high-tension steel spring suspended from a fixed point. A graduated metric scale is mounted parallel to the spring to measure its length accurately. The lower end of the spring features a weight hanger where slotted weights can be added incrementally. As weights are added, the spring stretches, and the displacement is recorded.
Features
:- High Precision Graduated Scale: Features a clear, mirror-backed or adjustable scale to eliminate parallax errors when reading the pointer position.
- Tension Tested Steel Spring: Supplied with a high quality helical spring designed for a consistent linear range and a well defined elastic limit.
- Sturdy Vertical Support: The apparatus is mounted on a heavy-duty cast iron base with a vertical pillar to ensure stability during loading.
- Adjustable Top Clamp: Allows for the use of different springs of varying thicknesses and materials to compare stiffness.
Applications
:- Potential Energy Studies: Measuring the elastic potential energy stored in a compressed or stretched spring.
- Oscillation Experiments: Using the setup to study Simple Harmonic Motion by timing the vertical oscillations of the loaded spring.
- Material Science: Investigating the "Elastic Limit" and "Permanent Set" of different metallic alloys.
- Weight and Mass Calibration: Demonstrating the principle of a spring balance for measuring gravitational force.
