Description
The Reliant Lab Friction Apparatus (also known as a Friction Slide or Inclined Plane) is a fundamental physics instrument used to investigate the laws of friction between different surfaces. This apparatus consists of a high quality horizontal or adjustable inclined plane typically made of wood or metal equipped with a pulley at one end. By placing a friction block on the surface and attaching weights via a cord, students can determine the force required to initiate movement and maintain it (kinetic friction). It provides a hands-on method to calculate the Coefficient of Friction and understand how surface texture and normal force affect resistance.
Features
:- Integrated Protractor: Includes a built-in scale or arc to measure the exact "Angle of Repose" where an object begins to slide.
- Low-Friction Pulley: Mounted on one end to ensure that the tension in the string accurately represents the pulling force without mechanical interference.
- Durable Construction: Built with a sturdy laminated base or metal frame to withstand repetitive classroom use and ensure a perfectly flat sliding surface.
- Durable Construction: Built with a sturdy laminated base or metal frame to withstand repetitive classroom use and ensure a perfectly flat sliding surface.
Applications
:- Surface Analysis: Demonstrating how surface roughness or lubricants (like oil or graphite) alter the frictional force.
- Normal Force Studies: Investigating the direct relationship between the weight of an object (Normal Force) and the resulting friction.
- Mechanical Engineering Basics: Teaching students the principles behind braking systems, tire traction, and industrial conveyor belts.
