Description
The apparatus consists of a heavy duty, height adjustable metal stand that houses a high intensity lamp within a ventilated housing. A condenser lens focuses the light through a fine cross hair or a circular slit onto the distant mirror. The reflected light then forms a bright spot with a sharp reference line on a translucent, horizontally graduated scale. This setup effectively "amplifies" tiny mechanical rotations into large, easily readable linear displacements on the scale.
