Description
The Reliant Lab Magdeburg Hemisphere is a classic and powerful apparatus used to demonstrate the immense force of atmospheric pressure and the properties of a vacuum. The apparatus consists of two hollow, high grade metallic hemispheres with precisely machined rims. When placed together, these rims form an airtight seal, often aided by a light coating of vacuum grease or a rubber O-ring. The external atmospheric pressure clamps the two halves together with such force that they become nearly impossible to separate by hand.
Features
:- Precision Machined Rims: The contact surfaces are ground flat to ensure a perfect airtight seal when joined, critical for maintaining a vacuum.
- Heavy Duty Construction: Built from thick walled metal (brass, aluminum, or iron) to withstand the high compressive forces of the atmosphere without imploding.
- Integrated Stopcock Valve: Features a leak proof brass valve that allows for easy evacuation and a controlled release of the vacuum.
- High Quality Finish: Usually nickel-plated or powder-coated to prevent oxidation and ensure a long life in a laboratory environment.
Applications
:- Atmospheric Pressure Demonstration
- Vacuum Studies
- Force Calculations
- Seal Integrity Testing
- Historical Science Education
