Description
The Reliant Lab Searle’s Thermal Conductivity Apparatus (25mm Pattern) is a heavy duty thermodynamic instrument designed to determine the coefficient of thermal conductivity for high purity copper. This specific model features a thick, 25mm diameter copper rod, providing a larger cross sectional area for more stable and measurable heat flow compared to smaller variants. One end of the rod is heated by a steam chamber, while the other is cooled by a continuous flow water jacket. By measuring the temperature at two intermediate points on the rod and the temperature rise in the cooling water, the rate of axial heat conduction can be calculated with high precision.
Features
:- Large 25mm Copper Specimen: Features a solid, high purity copper rod with a 25mm diameter to ensure a significant and stable heat flux for more accurate data collection.
- Copper Spiral Cooling Jacket: The cold end is wrapped in a high efficiency copper spiral through which water flows to absorb conducted heat.
- Four Point Thermometry: Includes four dedicated thermometer pockets to capture all necessary thermal variables.
- Steady State Optimization: Designed to work with a constant level water tank to achieve a thermal steady state, where heat input exactly equals heat output.
Applications
:- Calculating Conductivity : The primary use is determining the absolute coefficient of thermal conductivity for copper in physics and engineering laboratories.
- Steady State Demonstrations: Used to teach the concept of thermal equilibrium in thermodynamics, where temperature gradients remain constant over time.
- Material Science Analysis: Comparing the energy transfer efficiency of large-diameter rods versus smaller specimens to study scale effects in conduction.
- Heat Exchanger Engineering: Useful for students learning how copper’s high conductivity is utilized in industrial radiators and cooling fins.
