Description
The Student Polarimeter features a robust horizontal or inclined body housing a high-quality monochromatic light filter (usually for Sodium light). It consists of a fixed polarizer and a rotatable analyzer mounted at opposite ends of a central chamber. A glass sample tube (100mm or 200mm) containing the liquid is placed in this chamber. By rotating the analyzer until the light reaches a point of "uniform darkness" or a specific "half shadow" match, the user can read the angle of rotation on a circular scale equipped with a vernier for high precision.
