Its primary function is to turn the engine over by cranking it so that it can begin running independently. When you turn the ignition key or push the start button in a vehicle, an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid, which is a small relay-like device mounted on the starter motor. The starter motor is an electric motor connected to the engine's flywheel (automatic transmission) or the crankshaft (manual transmission). When the starter solenoid receives the electrical signal, it engages a small pinion gear on the starter motor's shaft into the teeth of the flywheel. When engaged, the starter motor begins to rotate, turning the flywheel. This action rotates the engine's crankshaft
