Description
The Reliant Lab Viscosity Searle’s Pattern Apparatus is a high precision instrument used to determine the absolute viscosity of highly viscous liquids. Unlike the falling-sphere method, Searle’s pattern uses two concentric cylinders: an outer stationary cylinder and an inner rotating cylinder. The space between them is filled with the test liquid. By applying a known torque to the inner cylinder and measuring its angular velocity, the internal friction of the fluid can be calculated. It is especially effective for non-Newtonian fluids where the rate of shear needs to be controlled.
Features
:- Concentric Cylinder Design: Consists of a precisely machined inner cylinder and an outer container to ensure a uniform shear rate.
- Low Friction Bearings: The inner cylinder is mounted on high quality jewel or ball bearings to minimize mechanical resistance and ensure data accuracy.
- Adjustable Speed Control: Allows the user to vary the load, making it possible to study the viscosity of the fluid at different shear stresses.
- Scale and Pointer Assembly: Equipped with a clear graduated scale to measure the angular displacement or revolutions per minute (RPM) accurately.
Applications
:- Quality Control in Manufacturing: Used in the cosmetic and food industries to ensure the consistent "thickness" of creams, syrups, and sauces.
- Lubricant Research: Testing the performance of heavy-duty engine oils and industrial greases under rotational shear.
- Biochemical Studies: Analyzing the flow properties of biological extracts, concentrated protein solutions, or synthetic mucus.
- Educational Physics: A core experiment for engineering and physics students to understand the mathematical derivation of viscous torque.
