Damage:

The grubs feed roots and damage pods.Grubs feed on fine rootlets, resulting in pale wilted plants, dying in patches.

Life Cycle:

In the first stage of life cycle, the female beetle lays 60-80 tiny, oval shaped white or yellow eggs, usually on a ploughed soil. Once the eggs hatch, it goes into the larval stage. In the larvae stage, they eat a large amount of crop Roots - organic matter and continue to grow. While in this stage it sheds its exoskeleton many times while growing period. A larva passes through 3 - 5 larval instars. After the larval stage, it enters into the 'pupal stage' which can take up to 1-1.5 months and usually happens over the winter period. Once done with the pupal stage, the beetle breaks out of the shell that it is encased in and lifecycle move forward.

White Grub species i.e H.serrata, H.consunguinea are most damaging species which found on sugarcane. Main damage is caused by grubs found in soil near roots. Its very difficult to control pest at grub stage. Managing adult beetles is one of the effective way to control this dangerous pest. After 4 year research Green Revolution launched ‘White Grub Lures’ in 2021.For better management of white grub Species H.serrata, H.consunguinea. With the help of bucket trap and white grub lure we can manage beetles of white grubs during premansoon rain. March To June with premansoon days is emergence period of beetles and right time to manage white grubs.
