Description
The Reliant Lab Young’s Modulus Appratus, based on the classic Searle’s Pattern, is a precision instrument designed to determine the Young’s Modulus of elasticity of a metal wire. Constructed from heavy duty iron, this apparatus consists of two rectangular metal frames coupled together. One frame supports a reference wire while the other supports the experimental wire of the same material and length to compensate for temperature changes. A highly sensitive spirit level is pivoted between the two frames, and a micrometer screw head is used to measure the minute extension of the experimental wire when subjected to varying loads.
Features
:- Dual Frame Compensation: Comprises two identical iron frames to support a reference wire and an experimental wire, automatically neutralizing errors from temperature expansion.
- Precision Micrometer Screw: Equipped with a high-accuracy micrometer to measure microscopic longitudinal extensions.
- Highly Sensitive Spirit Level: Features a spirit level pivoted at one end and resting on the micrometer tip at the other to ensure precise horizontal alignment.
- Robust Iron Construction: The main frames are cast from heavy duty iron, providing the rigidity necessary to maintain alignment under significant tension.
Applications
:- Material Science Education: Serves as a fundamental experiment in engineering and physics curricula to understand the mechanical properties of solids.
- Wire Testing: Used to compare the elasticity of different materials like iron, brass, copper, or steel under controlled laboratory conditions.
- Verification of Hooke’s Law: Experimentally confirms that within the elastic limit, the extension of a wire is directly proportional to the applied load.
- Precision Measurement Training: Helps students develop skills in using micrometers and spirit levels to perform high precision physical measurements.
