Welding goggles are primarily used to protect the eyes from dangerous radiation that is released during welding operations. This includes defence against UV radiation, which can result in photokeratitis, also referred to as "welder's flash," a severe corneal irritation. Welding goggles also lessen the risk of injury from hot sparks and metal pieces that could be created while cutting or welding.
