Second Layer (Puttu Podi): Gently add the moistened puttu podi (rice flour mix) on top of the coconut layer. Do not pack it tightly.
Alternate Layers: Continue layering with grated coconut and puttu podi until the cylinder is almost full, finishing with a layer of coconut on top.
Attach to Steamer Base: Place the filled cylinder onto the spout of the steamer base, which should already contain boiling water.
Steam: Allow the puttu to steam for approximately 5-8 minutes, or until steam starts to come out from the top holes of the cylinder.
Remove and Serve: Carefully remove the puttu maker from the steamer base. Use the pushing rod (often attached to the lid) to gently push the cooked puttu out onto a plate.
Serve Hot: Enjoy your hot puttu with kadala curry, sugar, or bananas.
