Short Description
The 100 x 16 mm (4-inch) #60 Grit Fiber Sanding Disc is a durable, medium-coarse abrasive accessory designed for an angle grinder, featuring a #60 grit for fast stock removal and a rigid vulcanized fiber backing to ensure high durability under operational heat and speed. Its 4-inch size and 16 mm bore offer a standard fit for most small grinders, making it highly versatile for aggressive tasks like smoothing welds, stripping rust from metal, and fast surface shaping on wood.

The 100 x 16 mm (4-inch) #60 Grit Fiber Sanding Disc is a durable, circular abrasive accessory used with an angle grinder and a supporting backing pad. Designed for aggressive material removal, its #60 medium-coarse grit and resin-bonded fiber backing make it highly effective for quickly grinding down welds, stripping heavy rust and paint from metal, or fast shaping of wood surfaces. For safe and efficient use, it requires proper mounting and must be operated at a shallow angle (10°–15°) to the workpiece with continuous, light-to-moderate pressure to prevent overheating and clogging.
Features
:- Fast Cutting Power: It removes material quickly because it uses sharp, durable abrasive grains (like aluminum oxide).
- Strong and Stiff: The sandpaper is backed by a tough vulcanized fiber (a strong, rigid base) that stops it from tearing apart when spinning at high speeds.
- Heat Resistant: The grains are secured with a special resin bond that resists heat, meaning the disc lasts longer even when grinding hard metal.
- Medium-Coarse Grit: The #60 grit is excellent for aggressive work—it quickly smooths rough surfaces or removes welds, but leaves a somewhat rough texture.
Applications
:- Metal: Grinding down welds (weld blending), quickly stripping thick rust and old paint from car bodies or machinery, and rough shaping metal edges.
- Wood: Heavy smoothing or rapid shaping of very rough lumber. Use gently to avoid burning the wood.
- General: Quickly removing paint, body filler, or cleaning surfaces that have heavy buildup.
Maintenance:
- Dry Storage: Store the discs in a cool, dry place. If the fiber backing absorbs moisture, the disc can warp (curl up), making it unsafe to use.
- Check for Clogging: If the disc starts slowing down, it's likely clogged with material (called "loading"). Use a sanding belt cleaning stick (a rubber block) while the disc is spinning slowly to scrape the debris off.
- Inspect Before Use: If the disc has deep cracks, tears, or is badly warped, throw it away immediately and use a new one.
Usage
:- Mount Securely: Always unplug the grinder first! Place the disc onto the grinder's Backing Pad (the rubber/plastic support plate) and tighten the locking nut firmly.
- Start Away: Turn the grinder on while holding it away from the material and let it get up to full speed.
- Use the Angle: Hold the grinder at a shallow angle (about 10° to 15°) to the metal or wood. If you hold it flat, it will clog and burn.
- Keep Moving: Use light to medium pressure and move the disc constantly in smooth, overlapping strokes. Never stop in one place, or you will dig a hole or create too much heat.
Precautionary Guidance (Safety Tips):
- Wear Safety Gear: Always wear safety glasses, a face shield, and gloves. The sparks and dust from this disc can be very dangerous.
- Check Speed Rating: Make sure the maximum speed rating printed on the disc is higher than or equal to the maximum speed of your angle grinder.
- Use the Pad: Always use a proper Backing Pad; never attach the disc directly to the grinder spindle without support.
- Avoid Pressure: Let the tool do the work. Pressing too hard creates dangerous heat and will destroy the disc and potentially damage your grinder.
